About the Then, Now & Forever – We Are Point Campaign
“The Then, Now & Forever – We Are Point campaign, which began its quiet phase on July 1, 2013, is about preparing the university and our students for what comes next. It’s about student success,” said Chancellor Bernie Patterson when the public phase of the campaign was launched on April 30, 2016. “We are asking those who love this university to move from donating to investing.”
Prior to the launch of the Then, Now & Forever – We Are Point campaign, the UW-Stevens Point Foundation raised, on average, $2 million a year. Most of those funds went towards scholarships and the support of various programs across campus. In the three and a half years since the campaign began, the university’s foundation has raised upwards of $20 million!
What does that really mean for UWSP?
In times like these, when budget is always a concern, what effect does raising our goal of $30 million have on the university’s finances?
The great majority of the money raised is placed in an endowment. A percentage of the earnings funds donors’ designated programs and scholarships. Only 8.34 percent of the $20 million is unrestricted funding. These unrestricted funds are used for a multitude of purposes, including providing freshman scholarships, opportunities for alumni to engage, and funding for other strategic university needs.
Campaigns are not designed to fix budget issues; rather they are undertaken to enhance existing programs, create new, innovative opportunities for students and to give the university, over a long period of time, a more solid financial footing for the future.
